The fitting will typically take about an hour in our designated, private breast care fitting room. At the beginning of the consultation, our Certified Fitter will discuss your relevant medical history, any specific needs, concerns or questions with you. From there, she will show you different items with features that may suit you specifically. The next step is to take measurements to determine the best size and fit. Once a bra is fitted to you, our Certified Fitter will then recommend a breast prosthesis, or breast shaper to bring proper symmetry to your chest wall. If an off the wall prosthesis does not work for you, you have the option to get a custom breast prosthesis. Many insurance companies will cover mastectomy bras, compression tops, and breast prostheses. Our Certified Fitter is very familiar with insurance requirements and will guide you through the entire process.
As seasons pass by, our bodies go through changes. It is very important to come in for follow-up fittings when these changes occur to ensure you are in the best fit possible.
What is a Certified Mastectomy Fitter?
A Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) is an allied health professional who is specifically trained and educated in post-mastectomy care. A CMF measures a patient and properly fits, dispenses, and adjusts external breast prostheses, bras, and related supplies. A CMF will be there to care for your physical and emotional well-being. They will provide instruction and training on how to properly use and maintain any post-mastectomy or related supplies you may need.
